The new generation of Audi Q7 is a full sized SUV style car and although the manufacturers have taken a good effort in concealing its size, the Q7 has been likened to the A8 Allroad. Since its debut in 2007, the car has undergone major redesigning and the modern one has more of a wagon-like profile. People must remember that the Audi Q7 is not a sport SUV but is more of the stylish car that people desire to have for its good looks. At the same time, the interiors fail to impress much as the rear seats disappoint you with cramped space while the middle row does not offer the same level of functionality. Nevertheless it is not an entirely bad car as it offers a great driving environment.
It features a new Virtual Cockpit as taken from the TT finished with clear and logically laid out good materials as well as good interface. The car has several cameras and sensors on the vehicle that enables it to self-drive and relives the driver, especially on long distances helping them stay within the lane, automatically slow down before turnings and even read speed limits thereby adjusting accordingly. The interiors have been surveyed to be slightly cramped up, especially when compared to many SUVs of the similar class and price range that offer more spaciousness.
The Q7 is available in 3 trim levels of Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. Apart from the regular features offered by the Premium range, the Premium plus offers an additional navigation system with keyless entry and ignition, auto dimming side mirrors, power-adjustable steering and ambient lighting. It also offers several packages like the Vision Package and Cold Weather Package. In addition to all of the above, Prestige comes with 20-inch wheels, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alerts, side-exit warnings, a head-up display and additional interior lightings. It also has a high resolution 8.3 inch central display with 19 speaker Bose surround-sound audio systems installed. All trims of the Q7 are eligible for installing the Cold Weather package while the Premium Plus and Prestige ones only have access to Driver Assistance Package. Additionally, Prestige trim owners are eligible for access to the Luxury Package and Adaptive Chassis package that promise extra special features.
In terms of performance, the Audi figures as tested reveal an average performance for its class. Specifications include a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 engine producing 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. It has an eight-speed automatic transmission system for sending power to all four wheels. The estimated fuel performance is 21mpg as tested on a combination of highway and city roads.
Audi Q7 features standard safety measures including the antilock brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors, front-seat side airbags, rear view camera and frontal collision warning with automatic braking. When driven around, the car is smooth and impressive and quite easy to manoeuvre. Accelerating to highway speeds is quite easy and fast owing to its strong V6 engine and responsive eight-speed transmission.
